Dara’s Journey

Before training as a psychotherapist, Dara had a diverse career that consistently centered around people. After graduating with a business degree, he began working as a radio presenter and event manager, before moving into management roles within hospitality and retail. In each role, Dara brought a coaching style of leadership, always seeing potential in others and supporting their growth, inspired by Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

While outwardly successful, Dara began to feel increasingly disconnected and unfulfilled. In his mid-twenties, he travelled extensively, and while volunteering in an orphan school in Kenya, he experienced a profound realisation, that there was more to life than the societal ‘Rat Race’.

This marked a turning point, prompting him to step away from management and begin a journey of personal growth and a return to education.

How Dara Works

As a Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapist, Dara draws from a range of therapeutic modalities to meet each client’s unique needs. His integrative approach may include elements of CBT, talk therapy, movement, psychodynamic, meditation, and creative expression — always guided by what feels most supportive for the client at any given moment.

Through this collaborative process, you are supported to cultivate self-compassion for the wounded or protective parts of yourself. This can open the way to reconnecting with one’s true self, fostering personal growth, and moving toward self-actualisation and a more fulfilling, authentic life.

Dara supports clients with a wide range of presenting issues, whether they involve anxiety, trauma, family issues, relationships, grief, addiction or major life transitions. He has a particular interest in supporting individuals around identity, sexuality, and neurodivergence.

Dara’s Approach & Values

Dara believes that every person holds an innate potential to self-actualise. As we grow, we often absorb messages about who we ‘should’ be — shaped by family, culture, and society. Over time, these internalised stories can lead us away from our authentic selves. In response, we may develop coping mechanisms or ‘masks’ to gain acceptance or protect ourselves from pain, sometimes without conscious awareness. While these strategies once served a purpose, they can later contribute to anxiety, emotional distress, and a sense that something isn’t quite right.

Dara’s work is grounded not only in psychoeducation but also in his own lived experience. Growing up, he struggled with dyslexia and experienced bullying throughout primary and secondary school. In a neurotypical environment, he learned to work harder to keep pace with his peers, developing a harsh inner critic and a strong drive to overperform. These patterns continued into adulthood and eventually contributed to experiences of anxiety and panic.

In his twenties, Dara also faced challenges around identity. Growing up in a society that often portrays life in a linear way, he felt pressure to fit in and pushed parts of himself aside in order not to feel ‘different’. Through his own therapeutic journey, Dara came to recognise that much of his masking extended beyond dyslexia, leading to an adult diagnosis of AuADHD. This experience deepened his understanding of the emotional toll that comes from not being true to oneself.

At the heart of Dara’s work is a desire to help others understand the ‘why’ behind their experiences and to develop compassion for the wounded parts of themselves. Having always felt a drive to support those who feel different or inadequate, Dara has found a space where he can walk alongside others — helping them to soften the inner critic, build self-belief, and reconnect with who they truly are.

Today, Dara walks alongside individuals on their own unique paths toward healing and authenticity, offering compassion, presence, and integrity. No matter how big or small your concern may feel, Dara is here to meet you where you are.

Alongside his private practice, Dara has developed a Transition Year programme that supports teenagers in building self-belief while promoting diversity and inclusion within an increasingly complex and diverse society. At the heart of this work is the same guiding principle that informs all of Dara’s practice: celebrating our differences, both within ourselves and in one another, as a close friend once said to him, ‘If we were all the same, the world would be a very boring place.’
