Welcome to my profile! My name is Gerard Leijen and I am passionate about guiding individuals toward health, well-being and self-discovery through Daoyin, Ancient Taoist Qigong, meditation and breathwork. With a decade of experience in these transformative practices, I have dedicated my life to helping others regain their vitality and promote holistic healing.

My Journey

My journey into the world of Qigong began not as a practitioner seeking enlightenment, but as an individual grappling with the challenges of my own health. For many years, I suffered from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and Fibromyalgia (FM), debilitating conditions classified as autoimmune diseases. These illnesses profoundly affected my daily life, robbing me of energy, joy, and the ability to engage fully with the world around me.

In addition to my health struggles, I faced postural challenges due to injuries sustained through accidents and during my time in the building trade. The physical demands of my profession, combined with the effects of chronic illness, left my posture misaligned and contributed to further discomfort and pain. Conventional methods of treatment provided little relief, prompting me to seek alternative solutions that might empower me to take control of my health.

Discovering the Healing Power of Qigong

It was during this difficult period that I discovered the profound benefits of Taoist Qigong and Daoyin. Rooted in ancient Chinese philosophy, Qigong is a holistic practice integrating physical movements, meditation, and controlled breathing. Daoyin, a form of Qigong, emphasizes guiding the body’s energy (Qi) through rhythmic movements and specific postures, promoting overall wellness.

As I commenced my Qigong journey, I experienced remarkable changes. The combination of gentle movements, mindful breathing, and meditation not only alleviated my physical discomfort but also fostered emotional and mental clarity. Through dedicated practice, I gradually reversed my symptoms of ME and FM, corrected my postural alignment, and cultivated a deep sense of inner peace.

The transformative impact of these practices inspired me to share my knowledge and experience with others, empowering them to heal and thrive. I embarked on my path as an instructor, equipping myself with the skills and insights to guide others on their healing journeys.

My Teaching Philosophy

At the core of my teaching philosophy is the belief that everyone possesses the ability to heal themselves. My approach is rooted in compassion, understanding, and the recognition that each individual is unique and requires tailored guidance. I aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment where students feel safe to explore their bodies, minds, and spirits.

GENTLE MOVEMENT ROUTINES:  I guide you through a series of flowing movements that cultivate Qi, enhance flexibility, and promote relaxation.

BREATHWORK TECHNIQUES Controlled breathing exercises help center the mind and release stress, allowing you to connect more deeply with your body.

MEDITATIVE PRACTICES:  Guided meditations facilitate mindfulness and emotional well-being, enabling you to find stillness amidst the chaos of daily life.

POSTURAL ALIGNMENT WORK:  Drawing from my own journey, I provide insights and adjustments to improve posture and alleviate tension.
